"acle, who are a strong alliance side were pitted against what may well be the last truly “village” side in norfolk. if you drive through barney, you can blink and miss it! barney only play in the mid-norfolk sunday league and are currently in pole position for taking the overall league championship. they are having a wonderful season." acle won the toss and elected to bat. liam channell drew gasps of admiration around the ground with his opening burst. he was both very quick and was getting late swing. in three overs he took two key wickets, which rocked acle onto the back foot, a position from where they unable to recover. craig press scored a well crafted 28, whilst jordan betts chipped in with 21. the outstanding bowling performance came from jack timmins who took 4 for 29. acle were all out for 129. this brought the exciting talent of aaron riseborough to the crease, to open the barney reply. the sizeable crowd were treated to a wonderful display of attacking batting. young riseborough started carefully but gradually increased the tempo and kept on accelerating. he completed the run chase with a breathtaking series of boundaries including 3 sixes. a cheeky reverse sweep for 4 saw barney to victory. the man of the match trophy had to go to aaron riseborough for a memorable performance. broke cup final the broke cup final was less one sided and saw a strong martham side challenging league newcomers, beeston. martham won by 4 wickets. league chairman, colin king said, “i have watched both of these sides playing, during the season, and i knew that both sides had some talented players.” martham won the toss and elected to bowl. beeston got off to a slow start against some accurate martham bowling. adrian parke top scored with 29, whilst harry steward added a fine 27, including a huge six that went out of the ground. the pick of the martham bowling was harry chanchalani who took 4 for 24. beeston were all out for 138. in reply martham made steady progress. wicket keeper, finn grist, top scored with 45, whilst kieron spencer (scratch) made a telling 37 at the crucial time. the pick of the beeston bowling was tom roberson who took 2 for 32. mention must also be made of ben wall, the beeston captain, who bowled an extremely tight 8 overs conceding just 17 runs. the man of the match trophy went to kieron spencer for his all round contribution with both bat and ball. after the finals, league chairman, colin king, added, “the sun shone, sprowston cricket club is a great venue, the teams produced some fine cricket. all in all, the crowd went home with the feeling that they had been well entertained: a successful day.” committee & division secretaries league constitution league rules committee & division secretaries
